The Zombie Survival Guide (High Quality)
This experimental film/extended trailer was originally created as a “fan film” contest entry, inspired by the books “The Zombie Survival Guide” and “World War Z” written by Max Brooks. Originally filmed between December 2005 – February 2006 on a budget of about twenty bucks and three or four pizzas. The over-the-top aspects were, of course, intentional. We’re aiming for laughs. Not scares.

*IF YOU ARE MAX BROOKS:
Thank you for inspiring us! As huge fans, we’d love to hear what you think of our little movie. We know that we broke many of the “rules” from the guide, but it was all to make the film a little more fun and not just another “instructional video” ripoff. Thanks again! We hope you enjoyed it!

The Ultimate Zombie Survival Guide
EPISODE TWO IS NOW COMPLETE!
It has been written and re-written until a perfectly good usable shooting draft has been made, and now I’m looking for funding.
I never thought I would actually make a second film when I created “Episode 1″, but due to overwhelming response, I now know a second episode is just what a lot of people are after.
Instructional zombie survival video from the 1950s called “The Ultimate Survival Guide, A Civil Defense Announcement, Part 1 – “Fight or Flee?”"

This is my final film in my two year course at swinburne prahran in melbourne victoria. Couldn’t have done it without a great a cast and crew. This film is being shown in the Bayside Film festival on the 16th of June. Hopefully I am noticed, please support me if you like the film.
There is no parts 2 and 3, but I’ll make them if I get 10,000 views on youtube, as the more attention this film attracts, the greater my chance of finding funding.
I’ve realised I’m getting close to 10,000 views sooner than i thought so I don’t want to dissapoint everyone by saying I won’t make another film, I WILL! It just won’t be as soon as I hit 10,000 views, as the next film will cost at least $3000 bucks, and I already have another film lined up to make, and that one’s costing at least 10 grand, so please be patient, I thank you all for watching.
Well its got to 10,000 views, so I’m writing the next movie now, thanks for watching everyone.
The Full name of this film is “The Ultimate Survival Guide, A Civil Defense Announcement, Part 1 – “Fight or Flee?” But its so long no one ever writes it that way. Hopefully you’ll remember it.
*****SPOILERS BELOW**************
Okay so I might as well chuck in everything you did or didn’t care to know about this film.
The large Civil Defense logo is exactly the same as the real one, with only small alterations so it isn’t techincally a rip off.
The voice over at the start is from the 1950’s Duck and Cover film.
The general scenes were filmed at my old high school. The desk he sits at is the desk I’m using right now! It my computer desk.
All the maps you see in the film are from my dads trip around australia, so if you’re good, you can spot a map of Australia in the War room scene.
“This is billy’s dad” scene was filmed outside my producers house.
The pilot (me) is an Australian, wearing WW2 british clothes, in a WW1 plane, fighting against a french zombie, played by a british actor.
I’m wearing paternity jeans when I play the farmer.
The scythe the farmer uses the is the same one used on my first film called “The life of death” (a crappy film i’m not happy with)
As Tom and Jane walk down the street, Tom is holding “The Zombie Survival Guide” by Max brooks.
The war room extras are wearing the exact same armbands as the actors in the “Duck and Cover” film which has an exact same scene.
Footage from “Duck and Cover” is used in the Tom and Jane emergency shelter scene.
When Tom is firing the AK-47 at two zombies approaching him and Jane, the one of the right is wearing a black and white version of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” jacket.

A man is bitten by a zombie and undergoes the horrible transformation into a soulless corpse.
Directors Commentary:
Im thrilled with the way Undead came out. Producing was difficult; gathering actors, costumes, make up, and props, but I think it was an eventual success. As for directing the story I think this film stands out from most other zombie movies; never have I seen a zombie film from a zombies perspective. Two things really brought Undead onto a whole new level, sound design and color correction. Sound design was pretty easy, but impressively effective. Low tones to bring in more emotion along with the offsetting music. Both really helped set the mood and tie the movie together. Color correction also did a lot to drive the emotional aspect of the movie. In the beginning everything has a gray, dead, de-saturated feel to it. This is to amplify the zombie apocalypse and make the world seem empty. After the main actor is bitten everything turns cold, dark, and blue. This is to give a dead tone to a neighborhood once filled with life, and to make the audience feel lonely, wanting, almost as if they are robbed of their humanity just like the protagonist. Overall I think undead was a fantastic film, and on such a small budget, I couldnt ask for a better product.
