In fact Long swords …
In fact Long swords are great in close combat or rooms. It is called Half-swording. You can see some videos that I have, one are two man in armor using it. Also a long sword will not throw you? off-balance… Well, I will use it because I am training in it. : )

The thing with the long swords is that it isn’t good in close combat and it will easily throw you off-balance.
And proper use takes TRAINING.

I’d go with the …
I’d go with the longsword because it’s longer, the durability is better, the edge can be just as sharp, you have two edges to work with, easier to stab, and the pommel and quillions are heavy enough to be used as a blunt weapon. Also, when a longsword dulls, the edge rounds off instead of chipping, so the blade is still good. It’s also easier to sharpen a longsword, but it would require se basic sharpening tools and knowledge.
